Biography of Ian McVea

James Martin High School photography and video production instructor Ian McVea was raised in SE Asia and Africa, arriving in the U.S. to attend college. A self-taught photographer, he graduated from UT Arlington’s College of Business with a degree in management. Joining the  Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 1990, he served as staff photographer, shooting news, sports, and environmental portrait photography, and was photo editor for several years until leaving in 2011 as part of a corporate down-sizing.  His photos have appeared in hundreds of newspapers across the globe and in US News & World Report; Newsweek Magazine; Sports Illustrated; Time Magazine; Life Magazine and numerous other publications.

He still freelances for various newspapers and news magazines producing both still and video content. He also teaches digital photography classes at UT Arlington Department of Enterprise Development.
